Virginia Housing: A Shared Mission of Affordable Housing

By Virginia Housing

When homes are affordable and near jobs, good schools and transportation, everyone benefits. Individual lives are improved, and communities grow stronger.

For nearly 50 years, Virginia Housing has helped people attain quality, affordable housing. We carry out this mission by working in public-private partnerships with local governments, lenders, developers, Realtors and nonprofits as well as by supporting organizations with grants and sponsorships.

This year, Virginia Housing is a proud sponsor of The Alliance for Housing Solutions’ 2021 Leckey Forum. We are also thrilled to be working with them on the Lee Highway Missing Middle Initiative through a $50,000 Community-Engaged Planning Grant.

Tackling a housing challenge often starts with activities that require funding. Our Community Impact Grants, like the Community-Engaged Planning Grant, can help cover these costs, which may include market research, design and engineering studies, community outreach, development planning and other initiatives that help spur economic growth.

“Virginia Housing supports the Alliance for Housing Solutions and Lee Highway Alliance for their work to bring Missing Middle Housing solutions to Arlington County,” said Jill Norcross, Virginia Housing’s Community Outreach Regional Manager for northern Virginia. “While no one tool can solve the affordable housing crisis, zoning for Missing Middle Housing does expand housing opportunities for all and can bring new homeownership opportunities to families currently priced out of the market as well as provide housing types for those wanting to age in their community.”

“Virginia Housing believes this work being done in Arlington will be useful to other jurisdictions in the Commonwealth facing similar affordable housing supply challenges,” added Norcross.
